Shadows in the Flight Line · Book 2
by Willa Bishop
The contract appears on Noelle Quill’s monitor at 1:21 a.m., already logged in the family’s ledgers, already stamped with a penalty clause that smells like concrete and no witnesses. She didn’t sign it. Neither did Arlo Dunne. But someone inside the Blackridge Hangar made sure both their names are on it — and made sure neither of them can walk away.
Noelle has spent years behind glass, watching the world through camera feeds, keeping her hands clean by pretending that what she erases never really existed. Arlo has spent just as long being the thing that walks through doors after the feeds go dark. They despise each other on principle. Now, tethered by a brutal forced contract and a ticking dawn deadline, they have one night to unmask whoever is piggybacking on her surveillance network to sell live Nightshade flight footage to a rival crew — or the family will decide which of them pays the price.
The hunt pulls them out of their separate armors and into the rain-lashed corridors, the echoing hangar floor, the low-lit hush of the Nightshade Airside Lounge — places where bad angles hide worse secrets. The closer they get to the truth, the clearer it becomes: the contract isn’t a mistake. It’s a frame. And the architect already knows exactly where the cameras are pointed.
