Quinn Maddox keeps his father’s disgraced map rolled tight and his opinions tighter. As an adjunct cartography instructor at the Royal Geomantic Conservatory, he has learned that speaking what he sees tends to erase the people he loves from the official record. Then, at blue hour in the half-abandoned east wing archive, the forbidden Tidefall Coastline chart opens itself and inks a new inlet in his dead father’s handwriting—dated tonight.
Before Quinn can hide the evidence, Liraen Thorne arrives: fae-blooded, sharp-tongued, and carrying orders that conscript them both into a midnight investigative practicum. Anomalies are erupting along the coast, each one blooming precisely where fresh ink appears on a map that should be inert. The crown wants the chart seized. The fae courts want it returned. And somewhere in the blank margins, Quinn’s father left a bargain that no one—including Quinn—fully understands.
Forced to work together through cramped archive nights, dangerous field excursions, and an audience with a tidal fae court that addresses Quinn as ‘the cartographer’s heir,’ the two of them build something neither planned: wary respect, dry humor, and an attraction that keeps threatening to outpace the investigation.
