Near midnight in a rain-lashed LAX VIP lounge, Galina Pereira is supposed to be boarding a red-eye and minding her own meticulously organized business. Instead, she is staring at a tabloid photo of herself pressed against action star Holden Ghent’s chest outside a West Hollywood side door — and at the cream contract printout already lying between them on the glass table, both their names typed neatly in the header.

The Arrangement Desk turns public relationships into airtight contracts. Galina has spent years making sure those contracts never touch anyone she actually cares about. One grainy photograph, one furious conference call, and one brooding, infuriatingly principled movie star later, she is being pressured to sign herself in as his fake girlfriend — or watch her career and his franchise both go up in smoke before dawn.

Holden Ghent does not do scripted romance. Not anymore. But negotiating every boundary line by line with a woman who wields legalese like a weapon — and who looks at him like she is already two clauses ahead — is not the worst way to spend a storm delay. The problem is that the more they draft, the harder it becomes to tell which feelings are performance and which are dangerously, inconveniently real.
