Three hundred million kilometers from Earth, Aurora Station clings to the dark like a lit match in a hurricane. Maria knows every rivet on its aging hull — she has to, because the last time someone skipped a safety check out here, she watched a man drift away into nothing while she stayed clamped to the girder, alive and guilty ever since.

Then Alak’tok schedules her for a night-shift EVA along the abandoned comms crown, and suddenly the void feels different. Her alien supervisor is all steady voice and bioluminescent filament, braiding his glow around their shared tether as he makes her call each movement out loud — confirm anchor, confirm intention — like desire and survival are the same language. His reputation says bad boy, rule-bender, a collector of human women who trust him in places where he holds all the safety. Maria tells herself she is immune.

She is not immune.
